EIGHT OUTSTANDING  CARIBBEAN AMERICANS HONORED  AT 18th ANNUAL CARIBBEAN AMERICAN HERITAGE (CARAH) AWARDS

A skillful dancer and choreographer-- GARTH FAGAN, a world acclaimed author-- MARYSE CONDE, an international media strategist - JANET ROLLE, and an innovative physicist -- PROFESSOR ARLIE PETTERS,  are among the individuals that were honored by the Institute of Caribbean Studies (ICS) at the 18th Annual Caribbean American Heritage (CARAH) Awards  Gala on November 11, 2011. The elegant affair recognized individuals of Caribbean descent of accomplished and emerging stature in their field of expertise or who have made outstanding contributions to the community.  more

 

INVEST CARIBBEAN 2011 FOCUS ON AGRICULTURE VALUE CHAIN  A SUCCESS

 

INVEST CARIBBEAN, the 13th Annual Caribbean American Business Leaders Dialogue which had as its theme, "Mining the Agricultural Value Chain", succeeded in generating interest among key actors in the agribusiness community.  The event chaired by Nsombi Jaja, CEO of Quality Management Consultancy focused on opportunities for trade and investment in food, bio-fuel and bio-technology.   Speakers included Jean Smith, Jamaica Export Promotion Agency, Mark Wenner of the Inter-American Development Bank, and Ambassador Jacinth Henry Martin, of St. Kitts and Nevis and Chair of the CARICOM Caucus of Ambassadors.   For more information visit www.investcaribbean.us.

October 19th @ 6:30 pm EST  - Embassy Evening Series hosted by Ambassador John Beale of Barbados, "Financial Literacy and Democracy", Open to the Public.
September 24th - The Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) will host its Annual Legislative Conference in Washington, DC. The event draws thousands of advocates, corporate and community leaders to the Nation's Capitol to discuss the state of minority communities and to network and collaborate on future strategies for empowerment and development. ICS to participate in Black Womens Roundtable Public Policy Forum, chaired by Congressman Payne.  ICS has participated in the conference since 1995.

September 20th -  ICS PRESIDENT speaking at TransAfrica Forum Dialogue on the International Year of People of African Descent.

August 21st
- ICS Founder and President Dr. Claire Nelson will speak at AfroAmerica XXI Conference in Calii, Colombia. The international gathering is part of the UN recognition of 2011 as the International Year for Peoples of African Descent.
