ICS
Named Partner for National Education Association Minority
Community Outreach Program Launched at their 2007 Annual
Representative Assembly
ICS was selected to partner
with the National Education Association (NEA) in its Minority Community
Outreach (MCO) Program targeting various ethnic communities including
the Caribbean American, African immigrant and Hispanic communities.
The MCO was launched at the NEA Annual Representative Assembly.
ICS President was among the 20 guests representing various community
organizations invited to participate in a Breakfast meeting to discuss
the social marketing campaign, as well as to attend the Main Event on
the Floor.
Claire Nelson, ICS President states “The importance of ensuring that our communitiy is aware of the issues related to public education and the necessity to empower parents from our community cannot be overstated. We look forward to working with NEA to ensure that we help our community to navigate and promote the public education system across the country. ICS affiliates in NY, GA and FL will support the execution of the local outreach efforts.
The National Education Association Representative Assembly (RA) is NEA's highest decision-making body. With over 9,000 delegates, it is also the world's largest democratic, deliberative body.
The
RA is convened every July during the Annual Meeting. The first two days
are devoted to discussions, conferences, and exhibits—but the highlight
is the Representative Assembly itself. During this important event,
delegates debate issues that impact American public education, elect
top officers, and set policy for the 3.2 million-member Association.
